What our members have to say...

"Just a quick note to let you know that I really enjoyed the Speed Pitching event last night. There were a couple of interesting businesses on show, and the event was very well organised, high energy and fun. Congratulations on a great evening!" |

7 Steps To Increase Facebook Fans
|

|
Most companies know by now that if they want to have a successful overall marketing campaign, they need to fold in Facebook somehow. We know that we need to do, but we can't quite figure out how to make it work for us, can we? The first step is always the hardest. You've created your Facebook page, now what? You have no "likers", right? Where are they hiding and how do you get them to "like" you? These seven effective steps should work for most, if not all, businesses, and help you gain the traction you need on Facebook.
Custom Welcome Page
Granted, in order to accomplish this, you need to have someone on your staff that is somewhat knowledgeable with HTML, or at least be decent with a WYSIWYG editor. There are also companies out there who specialize in creating these types of pages for you if you don't have someone on staff who can do this for you. Custom welcome pages offer a nice transition to your Facebook page. Rather than going directly to your Wall, navigating through posts, and trying to find your Info page just to figure out who you are and what you do, they can have a custom graphic do this for them right off the bat. There are many different ways companies use custom welcome pages to engage their fans, but the important thing to remember is to be creative and split test continuously to see what works for you.
Remind Them
On your custom welcome page, remind your "stumblers" why they should like you. Do you have an amazing customer service record that they'd agree with? Do you offer exclusive information to people who like your page? You'll have to "push" the user a little bit to like you, so don't be afraid to show all your best qualities up front.
Incentivize
People love to get something, and they especially like to get something for nothing. Well, almost nothing. They simply have to like your page to gain access to exclusive deals and offers. Some people offer prize drawings for people who like their page, and switch these out routinely. Others give their fans access to exclusive coupons or content that can't be found anywhere else.
Call Them To Action
Sometimes people need a little reminding of what they need to do. Don't ever assume that your prospect knows what you want them to do. In your custom welcome page, it is always a good idea to have an arrow somehow pointing to the "Like" button with a prompt that says something along the lines of "Like Us To Get Access to Exclusive Content" or "Don't Forget To Like Us!". Make it plain as day that what you'd really like from them is the desired action.
Interact
People love to connect with people. I think Facebook, and social media in general, has proved this. If you aren't social, no one will want to "like you". Put up interactive videos and try to engage your fans. While it's great that you put up your own exclusive content, your fans want to see and interact with your other fans. They want to be able to identify with somebody. Put up contests like "Show us your worst sunburn" if you are a Sunscreen company. Create similar user-generated content contests. Incentivize your fans to share.
Be A Tease
Sometimes piquing the interest of someone is a powerful tool. Put up teasers on your custom welcome page. Curiosity killed the cat, and it also may make them "like" you. Some companies will put up pages that say "Like us to gain access to this free e-book". Again, be creative, but try to put the content they'd like to access behind the 'Like' button.
Explain Yourself
Get personal, and let your fans see the people behind your company. The motto of the day is "be transparent". Your fans want to know about you and your staff on a personal level, so let them! Put up pictures, throw up videos, fill out all the fields on the "Info" page. |
